Condition:
Rich warm tonal image, light aging, light fading at edges and light handling marks. Loose, unmounted print that is archivally matted with slip-in archival less common Bonfils view of the Pyramids of Cheops and Cheffreu and the Sphinx and temples of Bonfils (1831-1885) was a French photographer active in the Middle East from the 1860s until his death in 1885. He created a remarkable record of the Middle East second to none. His son, Adrien took over the business upon his father’s death carrying on until around 1900. Additionally, Lydie Bonfils, Felix’s wife continued producing images after that even issuing her own catalog and remaining in the Middle East until forced to evacuate at the beginning of the First World War.
